JULIA'S JOINING the JAMBOREE
Julia Wilson, one of our longest serving Scouts, has been selected to attend the 22nd World Scout Jamboree to be held in Sweden. She was selected from over a hundred Scouts in Berkshire to attend as part of the 4,000 strong contingent from the UK.
Every four years,
tens of thousands of Scouts, from every corner of the world, gather in
a tented city for two weeks of activities and adventure!
This
is a fantastic event where up to 40,000 Scouts live and learn together.
This is an amazing first-hand experience of multiculturalism in action,
an opportunity to interact and participate with others from different
cultures and to build solidarity and understanding across cultural and
geographical boundaries.
WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE ...
2010 saw another record turnout at the Reading Half Marathon FUNdraiser in the grounds of The University. Sausages in rolls, flapjacks, tea, coffee and squash were served to the deserving helpers just before the estimated 16,000 runners ran past their outstretched hands with bottles of water.
RESCUE 2010
Over 30 volunteers showed up on Sunday March 14th to help our annual clean up effort in The Cowsey. It was a beautiful day and despite being Mothers' Day we were helped by NINE Mums! A lovely lunch was provided at Eddie & Clodagh's house (THANK YOU!). We collected lots of rubbish and made the area look cleaner and tidier again ... and we appeared on Meridian News. Fame for the 52nd!!!
