Awards and Badges

While with the Colony, Beavers have the opportunity to gain awards and badges. These awards are given in recognition of the effort made by each child at their own level of development and understanding.

Some of these Awards and badges are worked for as part of a group activity and others are gained as individuals.

Making Their Promise

  • I promise to do my best

  • To be kind and helpful

  • And to Love God

  • Beavers are usually invested within a Group after visiting the Colony for four weeks. When they are invested, they make their promise and can wear the 52nd Reading Groups scarlet necker. They are also awarded the World Badge, The Royal County of Berkshire badge, the badge showing which District they belong to and lastly the Groups Name badge – these badges are the Membership Award.

    Joining In Award

The Joining In Awards recognise a commitment to Scouting. They celebrate Beaver Scouts participating in a Balanced Programme over a period of time and recognise the length of time a young person has been a Member of the Scout Movement, rather than as a member of any individual Section. In the Colony, up to two Joining In Awards can be earned. These badges are presented a year after the Scout has joined the Group. The award acknowledges and celebrates an active involvement in a Balanced Programme.

    52nd Reading Beavers Millenium Trophy

In the year 2000 we introduced the 52nd Reading Beaver Millenium Trophy to our group. The trophy is awarded at the end of each term to the Beaver that is felt to have achieved and improved the most, who has worked hard and behaved well and courteously to others.

    52nd Reading Lodge Prizes

Every term a prize is awarded to the one of the Lodges. This is usually the lodge that has worked well together, collecting and achieving points for the lodge (and not loosing too many along the way).
