Awards and Badges

While in our Pack, Cubs have the opportunity to gain a number of awards and badges. These are given in recognition of the effort made by, and achievements of a young person at their own level of development and understanding.

Some of these Awards and badges are worked for as part of a group activity and others are gained as individuals.

Membership Award, Joining In Awards (3), Challenge Awards (7), Partnership Awards (3), Staged Activity Badges (6), Activity Badges (33), Chief Scout’s Silver Award and Moving-On Award (to Scouts) ... click the badge icon below to see in more detail what Cubs can work towards!

Chief Scout's Silver Award

The Cub Scout Promise

I promise that I will do my best

To do my duty to God and to the Queen

To help other people

And to keep the Cubs Scout Law

The Cub Scout Law

Cub Scouts always do their best

Think of others before themselves

And do a good turn every day

The Cub Scout Motto

Be Prepared

Cubs are usually invested into the Pack after four to six weeks. When they are invested, they make their Promise and say the Law and can then proudly wear the 52nd Reading Group's scarlet necker. They are also awarded the World Membership Badge, The Royal County of Berkshire, Reading Central District and 52nd Reading Scout Group badges.

Joining In Awards
The Joining In Awards recognise a commitment to Scouting. They celebrate a Cub's participation in a balanced
programme of Scouting activities throughout the time the young person has been a Member of the Scout Movement.
In the Pack, up to three Joining In Awards can be earned and they are presented each year on the anniversary of the Cub joining the Group.
